You might wonder why Ganesh is truly one of the most popular Hindu gods. Ganesh was actually given a boon (a wish) from another god. The boon granted him to be more revered and worshiped than even his father, and he would be the first god to be acknowledged when entering a temple.

All Hindu deities are extremely representational, with their various markings, colours, faces and objects surrounding them holding deep significance and sometimes abstract meaning. As Ganesh is all about protection and power, much of his symbolism is related to safeguarding us from life’s physical and subtle obstacles. Here are the symbols of Ganesh and their meaning.

Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth, and they're one of the most unique looking mystical animals. Elephants have always been my favourite animal their size and strength and the symbolism behind the mighty animal.

As a child before we did anything special we would always do Ganesh Pooja, before I sat exams, when I took my driving test, anything new I embark on I always take his name… why? Because mummy always told me to!! She use to say “He removes all the obstacles in your path”.  As we see in the Hindu New Year of 2077, may Hindus around the world pray to Ganesh… but why is he known as the remover of obstacles?

Ganesh Chaturthi, is on the 22nd August 2020. In these unprecedented times in the new norm of Covid, the arrival of Lord Ganesh, the “Vighna Harta” (destroyer of obstacles) and the God of New Beginnings will certainly be an event to look forward to. Ganesh Chaturthi is a celebration of the birth of Lord Ganesh that goes on for 10 days.
The main ritual of the festival is bringing the idol of the lord home, making the lord a part of your daily life, only to be sent back to his home on Mount Kailash by immersing him in the water. But how did this festival come to be? And what is the importance of this festival? Also what are the signs and symbolism of Lord Ganesh?
