What is the Sudarshan Chakra?

The Sudarshan Chakra a spinning, disk-like weapon. Sudarshan Chakra is derived from two words ‘su’ and ‘darshan’. It Sanskrit it means auspicious (su) vision (darshan). Sudarshan means ‘Divine Vision’. Chakra is derived from ‘chruhu’, which denotes ‘movement’. It is used by Vishnu and Krishna. Sudarshan Chakra is described as the most powerful weapon of the cosmos, rivalled only by Shiva's trident. It adorns Lord Vishnu's index finger like a ring, and has miraculous powers. According to mythology, Lord Vishnu prayed to Lord Shiva for thousands of years. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva granted him a wish. Vishnu asked for a powerful that would help him to conquer all the asuras or demons. Lord Shiva then presented him with a Sudarshan Chakra. In the Dwapara Yuga, Shri Krishna received the Sudarshan Chakra from the Fire God, Agni. Sri Krishna was the eighth avatar of Vishnu. It was the mighty sage Parashurama, said to be the sixth avatar of Vishnu, who taught Sri Krishna to master the weapon.

The Sudarshan Chakra has 108 serrated blades, and has the capability to travel several million yojanas (1 Yojana = 8 kms) at a blink of an eye.

It is not thrown at anyone, rather, by willpower, it is sent against the enemy. It has tremendous occult and spiritual power to destroy everything.

Once out of finger, it chases the enemy and never returns without achieving intended results.

It rotates very fast after leaving the finger and chases the enemy. The only way to escape its wrath is to stop running and surrender before it. According to scriptures, Lord Vishnu comes to rescue if you are wise enough to surrender to him.
